The Nightfall Society

Setting: The Masquerade, The Veil, & the Silence of the Blood

Modern Nights

In the modern nights, there are many dangers to potential breaches of the masquerade or the veil. In general, such events are likely to place characters involved at risk both from the usual enemies of their sect and from mortals and other supernaturals of the area, which will be handled by the local Storyteller.

However, in cases of repeated and significant breaches, there are other powers that may choose to get involved, most notably the Technocracy. Whilst not mentioned in the current setting guides, which examine Awakened Mages only briefly, the Technocracy are one of the two main factions of Awakened Mages, and have fame in mortal society as the Men in Black.

The Technocracy lie entirely under the domain of the Lead Storyteller and will be utilised in the pursuit of cleaning up extreme or repeated supernatural events within an area. They have extensive influence over international government, military, and law enforcement, and will not refrain from using them to help, and more importantly they tend towards a scorched earth approach to those that reveal themselves to this level, and between the different branches of the Technocracy lie specialists in many areas, including supernatural warfare.

In the interests of avoiding the required attendance of the Void Marines or other Technocracy strike forces, it is recommended that players do their best to respect the First Tradition and the Veil, and to remember that there is a reason that hiding the existence of the supernatural is a cornerstone of every creature type. Those that risk that secrecy are shunned in supernatural society, and punished for their transgressions, and a huge amount of the status system and societal rules are built on the foundation of ensuring that people don’t perform acts that increase the risk of exposure.
